Generic Underground Induction

Course Overview

The Mines Rescue Generic Underground Induction course reflects the role of an individual working as an operator in an underground coal mine environment. It prepares participants to perform a range of routine tasks using fundamental operational knowledge and limited practical skills, in a defined context working under direct supervision.

Qualification Information

Upon successful completion of the Generic Underground Induction, participants will be awarded the following:

• Partial completion of RII20309 Certificate II in Underground Coal Mining (Statement of Attainment)

Vocational Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will have sufficient knowledge and basic skills in OHS requirements, hazard identification/risk control, underground work environment awareness (including plan reading), awareness of typical terms & jargon used in the industry, awareness of typical equipment & machinery, and experience in simulated self escape. This knowledge and skill is required to be able to enter the underground coal mining industry and pursue a career as an underground coal miner.

Delivery Strategy

Mines Rescue offers the Generic Underground Induction course over 4 days. The course structure is comprised of a blended training approach involving classroom based training as well as practical exercises in both the underground simulator and Virtual Reality facilities. Our training facilities provide the opportunity to expose participants to realistic scenarios so they are prepared for the real underground environment upon commencement of employment.
