Confined Space Training


Course overview

Mines Rescue offers three Confined Space courses and a refresher program designed to meet the needs of individuals who are required to enter and work in a confined space, perform standby or supervisor duties, perform confined space rescue and operate under breathing apparatus.

  • One day - Entry/Workers
  • Two days - Standby/supervisors
  • Three days - Standby/supervisors, CABA and confined space rescue
  • One day refresher - Standby/supervisors, CABA and confined space rescue

Training involves practical experience in real confined spaces including tunnels, containers, tanks, drains and shafts. Upon successful completion of training participants will gain skills and knowledge in:

  • Legislation and safe work procedures
  • Risk assessments
  • Permit to work systems
  • The operation of confined space equipment

Learning outcomes

This training takes into account all relevant aspects of the current Work Health and Safety legislation, Confined Spaces Code of Practice and AS2865.

Upon successful completion of training, participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency listed in the table below. Participants completing the Refresher training will be issued a Statement of Attendance.

These units contribute to the completion of the Certificate III in Process Manufacturing (MSA30107). To maintain currency of skills and knowledge, Mines Rescue recommends a refresher course be undertaken every two years.

Entry requirements

No formal previous learning is required for this course however Mines Rescue encourages participants to gain knowledge and experience of the policies and procedures of their workplace before starting the course.

It is acknowledged that this is a course based on a Certificate III level qualification that requires appropriate levels of language, literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, in-course activities and assessment tasks.
